Regurgitator + Horrorshow + Ball Park Music

Hello Gov Lovers,

We’ve been reflecting today on the great vibe there is at The Gov week in and week out. It’s hard to put a finger on what makes it happen, but it’s got a lot to do with those of you who come and share in what we’re doing here.

Whether it’s seeing a touring band, grabbing a meal, or chatting in the front bar as the sound hillbilly fiddling floats through the air, the place wouldn’t be the same without our huge Gov family.

We’d love you to join in the fun on Friday, 5 August for our Horses Birthday front bar party from 5-7pm. Dress up in your best jockey outfit, bake a cake to enter into our competitions or just come along and have some fun.

We hope to see you there.

Sydney ambient/melodic post-rockers SLEEPMAKESWAVES have announced a 9-date headline tour of Australia this August, bringing their schedule for 2016 up to a massive 55 dates. The ‘traced in constellations’ tour celebrates the release of the band’s latest single and video taken from ARIA and J Award nominated album ‘Love of Cartography’ and will see them play 53 shows across North America and Australia from March through September.
Special guests for the tour are American progressive rockers THE CONTORTIONIST whose latest album ‘Language’ has established them as one of the world’s most-hyped experimental rock acts. Recalling influences as diverse as Rush, Karnivool, King Crimson and Tool, the Indiana-based six-piece have a uniquely melodic take on technically proficient music.
Also in support are Perth’s piano-driven experimental quartet TANGLED THOUGHTS OF LEAVING, whose 2015 release ‘Yield to Despair’ took their expansive jams to a new level of dark brutality.
With a series of unforgettable and thundering sequences ‘Love of Cartography’ presents the band’s continued desire to map new creative directions. Recorded in Byron Bay at Studio 301 with producer Nick DiDia (Karnivool, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Powderfinger, Rage Against The Machine), the album’s 10 tracks range from the epic bombast of ‘Perfect Detonator’ to the delicate and subtle electronic flourishes of ‘A Little Spark.’
sleepmakeswaves have had an amazing run since the release of their debut album “…and so we destroyed everything.”  Over the past 4 years, their busy schedule has included 10 Australian tours, 4 European tours, touring the USA and playing SXSW, tours with 65daysofstatic and Karnivool – and unprecedented nominations for ARIA Awards in 2012 and 2014.

After nearly 15 years, Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett will be performing songs from his first ever solo album “A Version of Now” with his band The Alter Egos. It takes the listener on a candid remembrance trail; the tone both stridently distinctive and unexpectedly tender, as one of the greatest frontmen in Australian rock reflects on his motives, his losses and gains and finds his resolve – surprise — utterly unbowed. This is Peter Garrett as you’ve never heard him. Songs of love, songs of home and sweet memories chafe against songs of relentless resistance with, as ever, a steely eye on a better future.
A double-whammy of great original rock music hits The Gov in August as Adelaide’s MOSS and Strange Brew combine forces for a their album launches.
Performing as part of the Umbrella and Guitars in Bars events, this is a show that brings Adelaide’s musicians to the fore – so get in quick and support two fantastic local acts.
MOSS performs original heartland rock music influenced by an era when songs were very much media commentary. The stage was the podium, the lyrics the speeches, as this was the only social platform for political and social voice.
This inspiration is clear on the band’s debut CD ‘Face the Music’, where their songs focus on storytelling and social messages.
Strange Brew was formed just over a year ago, by lead guitarist, singer and songwriter, Phil Bennett. Phil has joined forces with Liz Skinner (vocals), Mark Langford (guitar), Rob Green (drums) and John Kings (bass) to bring together their respective experience in the rock arena. The band has produced two original albums, “Lonely Streets” and “It’s True” that ooze the laidback cool of surf-inspired retro blues.
