The Gov - Full Gig

John Schumann and The Vagabond Crew

The Entertanners Presents

In February 2020, John Schumann and The Vagabond Crew performed two sell-out concerts of “The Redgum Years” at South Australia’s premier music venue, the Governor Hindmarsh.

By popular demand, John and the Crew will perform 2 concerts only in February 2022, again at The Gov.

Recently voted the most popular South Australia band in the 1980s by readers of The Advertiser and The Sunday Mail, in many ways Redgum helped changed the face of Australian music. History belongs to the eastern states but the fact remains Redgum was in the vanguard of social and political songs - before artists like Midnight Oil and Paul Kelly.

“I think Redgum songs helped us redefine our national identity after WWII - when there was a tsunami of music and culture crashing on our shores from America and the UK. As the lead singer, when I sang, I sounded like “us “- Australians,” John Schumann said.

I think the punters recognised something honest and real in the stories and the delivery.”

“We told Australian stories, set in places the punters knew and I sang these stories to them in their own accent. Redgum taught us to dream Australian dreams rather than American dreams.

The Redgum Years is a concert of songs and stories. It’s for all those people who bought the records, came to the Redgum gigs, sat on the floor, listened and gave the songs life. And for their kids too.

Limited tables can be booked for dinner in the venue prior to the show. Call 8340 0744 or book online HERE
