FREE IN THE FRONT BAR

Adelaide based Sympathy Orchestra, originally a six piece with two drummers and two keyboard players formed in 1999 and held down a Thursday night residency at the Union Hotel for an unprecedented 6 years, packing in as many as 100 punters on a regular basis. Their first album, Rest In Pieces, was released to critical acclaim in 2000, followed by performances at the Adelaide Festival with Simi Roche’s Diwali Dance House and the Centre for Performing Arts production of West Side Story. Members were also involved with the soundtrack to Rolf De Heer’s film ‘Tracker’.
Since that time SO have had residencies at the Lady Daly and Whitmore hotels. A second album – Sword Machine was released in 2013.
After using long term keyboard player, Ray Smith, SO made the dramatic change of introducing a second guitarist, in Lyndon Gordon. The band have been working oon an acoustic set as well as electric, which with two guitars has taken the music into a totally different sphere.
