Gumbo Ya! Ya! 30 Years On Still Kickin’ Still Cookin’
Gumbo Ya! Ya! formed in late 1987 with the aim of presenting the richness and variety of New Orleans rhythm and blues music – hence the name which comes from the New Orleans expression meaning ‘everybody’s talkin’ !
Gumbo Ya! Ya! packed out Sunday afternoon residencies and venues playing to capacity crowds who couldn’t seem to get enough of the high energy R&B this seven piece was dishing up. Later supports to musical legends BB King, Joe Cocker and Ray Charles cemented the reputation of Gumbo Ya Ya as one of the most respected and entertaining bands in the country. The band even had a stint on Hey Hey It’s Saturday!
Thirty years on and the band is Still Kickin’ Still Cookin’.
Guests at The Gov will enjoy performances by the original line up and the Gumbo Ya Ya of today which has a slightly different line up and sound. But the boys remain on fire and look forward to this special one off show which rumour has it will feature special guests as the legacy lives on.
