Amnesty International Australia (AIA) is part of a global movement that works to promote and defend human rights. They call for torturers of justice to be held to account, fight for the change of oppressive laws, and the freedom of those around the world jailed for peaceably expressing their opinion. Within Australia, AIA works closely with Indigenous communities and people seeking asylum to fight discrimination and unfair detention. With their ‘Community is Everything Campaign” they lobby for governments to address the disproportionate number of Indigenous kids in detention in Australia. AIA also have very active Women’s and LGBTI Networks that campaign on important issues relating to gender and sexuality rights. They put pressure on the Australian government to adopt laws that respect the human rights of all our citizens and to meet our international human rights obligations. Come along for some amazing music and human rights activism!
