SHOOGLENIFTY
25th Anniversary Tour
Shooglenifty have been at the forefront of contemporary Celtic dance music across the globe for a full quarter century – exactly how long it’s been since their official debut gig, at the Orkney Folk Festival in 1990. The band will join us to welcome the New Year at The Gov on Friday, January 2.
Still unrivalled in their skill at welding beautiful melodies to wickedly potent grooves – together with kaleidoscopic influences from psychedelic rock to Balkan beats – they have a brand-new album, ‘The Untied Knot’, launching in Australia this summer with some spectacular new songs to punctuate their set of wild ‘get-up-and-dance’ tunes.
The Shoogles are delighted to be kicking off their 25th year in Australia where they have always enjoyed an energetic reception: this is the band that incited the first stage invasion at Sydney Opera House in 1996 after all. In 2015 they are joined by their original bass player, the funktastic Conrad Ivitsky Molleson, and a pair of extraordinarily talented newcomers will challenge their fiddle-playing front man Angus to nightly duels on stage: Ewan MacPherson on mandolin and Kaela Rowan on vocals. Sparks will fly.
